The legendary DJ, record producer and journalist, John Peel single handily introduced thousands of people to the most cutting edge music that many of the most  avid music fans may have only have stumbled upon much later, if at all.
Now for the first time one of the most celebrated and important archives in modern music history, John Peel’s record collection has been published online. Running from now through to October, 100 albums from his treasure trove of over 25,000 vinyl LPs, will be unveiled in an alphabetical progression each week.

Part of ‘a new experimental digital service’ called The Space, the feature will also include Peel’s home studio, browse through his album archive and see his personal notes, historic performances, home footage of Peel and his family, and an interview with his widow, Sheila, along with the treasure trove that is his record collection

The Soulful Singer Songwriter Josh Kumra came to our attention after he co-wrote and featured on Wretch 32’s #1 smash hit single ‘Don’t Go’ last summer and then more recently offering a free download of his track 'Call Off The Search' feat Maiday - a previous Single of the week for us in February this year.

Josh signed his own solo deal with RCA, and has since hit the road and toured extensively (picking up an impressive number of early door fans along the way), delivering a stunning set of songs, that will feature on his debut album scheduled for release in September 2012.

First up though is the distinctly UK hip hop sound of his official debut single ‘Helicopters & Planes’ with U.S.G member K Koke guesting (Roc Nation/RCA). Produced by Naughty Boy, the single has been described like a beat-peppered Ray Lamontagne or Gnarls Barkley in an introspective mood and slightly paranoid.

Josh kicks off the single campaign with a live residency at The Social in London across three weeks: May 22, May 29 and June 5

With the release his debut solo single, headline shows and festival slots to come, and album out later this year, Josh Kumra is set to stamp his mark well and truly all over 2012...

The new reboot will have Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man along with Rhys Ifans playing the lead villain, Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard. And although some doubt Andrew Garfields abilities, I have every faith he can pull off a better Spider-Man than Tobey ever did. The Lizard is a long lasting request from fans to see in one of the Spider-Man movies after having Dr. Curt Connors appear in Spider-Man 2 & 3 of the last series. Sadly after bundling three villains into Spider-Man 3 I don't think they could fit anymore in.

The Amazing Spider-Man will hit the cinemas on July 3rd, only weeks before the release of The Dark Knight Rises. So prepare for one hell of a month!  I have high hopes for this film, lets pray it doesn't let us down. Who doesn’t love springtime in the city, countryside, coastal village, or any other place, come to think of it ? All around, forest paths, city parks and sidewalk boulevards are bursting with fresh life, but for those of you in need of further reasons to feel good about the month of May, then go grab yourself a copy of Australian quartet Husky’s debut album. A collection of richly crafted songs and artful acoustic arrangements, Forever So is blessed with sumptuous melodies, reminiscent of Leonard Cohen and Crosby Stills & Nash, and lush Beach Boyish harmonies. The story unfolds after a series of comedic and unexpected events leads him to cross paths with his family in the strangest of locations and circumstances.

A sweet and funny comedy that may just slip under the radar if you’ve been unable to pull yourself away from the blockbusters in recent weeks... but at first glance (mostly from the trailer), I’m sure many of us can relate to Jeff in one way or another ...

Kwes – ‘Meantime’
The 24-year-old Londoner, Kwes, has always been a busy boy. He collaborated with the XX on early demos, produced tracks for Speech Debelle, and collaborated with Ghostpoet, Micachu and others on the acclaimed 'Kwesachu' mixtape series. But, his new 4track EP takes Kwes’ mad skills to a whole new level. Meantime is a seductive slice of warped electronica – 17 sensual minutes of radiant R&B, Chopped and churned with skittering rhythms, bubbling bass-lines & Kwes’ trademark tender vocals. Meantime is out now on Warp records.

Smoke Fairies – ‘Blood speaks’
The Smoke Fairies bucolic sound has matured considerably since their 2010 debut album ‘Through low light and Trees’. Blood Speaks has a tougher, more urban edge – a bolder vision that rings of epic journeys and new found confidence in both their artistic voice and evolving world. The Smoke Fairies duo, Jessica Davies and Katherine Blamire are joined on the album by their live band, to help bolster the Fairies burgeoning musical vision, and former producer, Head, also returns to the fold. Standout tracks are the grungy ‘The Three of Us’ and the heavyweight ‘Feel it Coming Near’. Blood Speaks is out May 21st on V2 Music.

Exlovers – ‘Moth’
It’s been more than a year since Exlovers released their sold-out debut single ‘Blowing Kisses’, but for lo-fi, indie-pop fans it’s certainly been worth the wait. Reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine, Teenage Fan Club and other 90’s guitar bands, Moth is a wistful summer LP full of big tunes, breezy melodies and irresistible hooks. Album highlights are the anthemic ‘Starlight, Starlight’ and catchy, shoegazey singles ‘This Love Will Lead You On’ and ‘Emily’. Moth hits shelves June 17th on indie label Young and Lost Club.

Justin Martin – ‘Ghettos & Gardens’
The debut LP offering from charismatic San Fran DJ, Justin Martin, blends punctilious production values with outrageous style and an obvious ear for seamlessly blurring genres – from the laidback hip-hop groove and sweeping strings of ‘Hood Rich’ to the heavyweight bass drops and UK bass-lines coursing through ‘Ghettos & Gardens’, this uplifting dance album should soon be bouncing its way onto sound systems worldwide. Gardens & Ghettos drops May 28th on Dirtybird Records.

Peaking Lights – ‘Luifer’
This is west coast duo Aaron Doyes and Indra Dunis’ 3rd full-length album release, and their zany musical vision continues along its previous kaleidoscopic, genre-defying path. Lucifer is a propulsive fusion of dub, disco, analogue electronica, krautrock and pop, which I’ll admit does sound a touch overwhelming, but in Peaking Lights deft hands it becomes an ultra-original and enchanting LP. Aaron Doyes describes it as a “record about play and playfulness, unconditional love, rhythms and pulses, creation and vibration", and that sounds about right to me. Lucifer makes its entrance June 18th on Weird World Record Company.
